Tonight!

Posted on February 24, 2015

The guys had to go to town to talk to the accountant, and seeing as how my brain fogs up as soon as someone says “accountant”, I volunteered to stay and check the heifers.  It was a nice, sunny day… and honestly, it’s the kind of day where I really miss checking the heifers!  Sure…

Not Tonight

Posted on February 23, 2015

My father-in-law recorded -31˚ last night.  We skated by with only -17˚.  Shows what living closer to the creek will do for you in winter!  As a result, we kept a closer eye on the heifers… they can go at any time, although they should wait just a bit longer!  I was ready to crawl…

We Are Here

Posted on February 22, 2015

There is a heaviness, no, a solemnity, about new fallen snow.  Glaringly white, made tolerable by squinting even with sunglasses, it lays quietly across fields and fences.  Character lines around my eyes can be blamed on this brilliance, more exist now than ever before.  The exurberant sense of new exploration fights against the sobering blanket. …

Minute Movie: “Snow Day”

Posted on February 21, 2015

We woke up to 4″ or 5″ of pretty white snow… and a few more inches by 10 am, and a couple more by noon… When I ventured out to haul more water and feed to my coop ensconced chickens… my yardstick read anywhere from 10″-16″.  The girls were happy to have me replenish their…

Moonset Pastel

Posted on February 20, 2015

A few days ago, I posted this as a photo… This is my pastel version!  Yes, the moon is so much bigger, but that’s the way the eyes see it, while the camera doesn’t capture it the same way. Oh, I’d give this a B- grade, but this is all learning… And these red…

Wool Scarf, Step Two

Posted on February 19, 2015

In the past, I’ve seen gorgeous “landscape” scarves on the internet.  The scarves are wet felted from roving, then needle felted with details.  Ever since I saw the first one… I’ve wanted to make one!  Isn’t it perfectly delicious? Finally, I did. Part One of this journey begins HERE. I’ve laid out my roving until…

Reposted for Elsa

Posted on February 17, 2015

I know I said I’d post pics of my scarf tonight… but I always glance through my older posts (links are found on the right sidebar)… and, honestly, I think this is one of my best posts EVER…  So I’m reposting. Sometimes, the best words come only once… Missin’ you, Else… *Originally posted February 17,…

Trade

Posted on February 16, 2015

Well, that’s just dandy.  When my computer gets shut down with a power surge or outage (which I didn’t notice anywhere else), it makes the grand decision to rebuild my photo library.  My photo library has so many pics in it… well, it’s embarrassing.  But know this… it takes TIME. And tonight was one of…

Reward

Posted on February 15, 2015

Mother Nature had to remind us again that it is FEBRUARY.  Three inches of fresh snow this morning… nice, wet, springtime-like snow… perfect for snowballs!  I may or may not have thrown some… At least the 50˚ weather this past week melted pretty much ALL of the old snow, so there’s no ice underneath. Brandon…

Bats and Owls and Starlight

Posted on February 14, 2015

For the past few weeks, our neighbor has been drilling a water well.  It quickly became apparent we weren’t used to strange lights in our neighborhood at night!  You could top the hill up the road a mile or two, and wonder at the glowing reflection on the red cliffs and hills. I mean, this…
