Frosted

Posted on December 8, 2009December 10, 2020

The weather hasn’t been exactly balmy here… Currently it is -28 and falling… I’m grateful for my electricity and warm house… The puppies have 2 heat lamps and an insulated dog house… The cold doesn’t bother the big dogs very much. Like today when we headed up to the Mills place. Dally, Boomer, and Lucas…

Brave Sadie

Posted on December 7, 2009January 7, 2015

The past few days have been rather chilly… We awoke to -20 this morning… It makes going out for long periods of time with the puppies a smidge painful. If I’m not freezing… they are… If it’s below 10… it seems like their paws stick to the snow more and they put on a pitiful…

Lucas’ Acupuncture

Posted on December 6, 2009March 25, 2015

I thought I’d share some of Lucas’ acupuncture treatment he received a few weeks ago on my Casper trip.  This is by far not all of his appointment, which actually took almost 2 hours… but I believe it is remarkable how he took it all in.  We went to Ten Mile Clinic in Casper, Wyoming….

HappyDance

Posted on December 5, 2009January 7, 2015

Yesterday we gathered up the last 50 yearling bred heifers for sale in Riverton Tuesday.  It gave Dally the chance to practice something fairly repetitive since we had done this just last week.  I’ve dumped her out of the pickup and am sending her in a straight line the way she is facing. That meant…

Too Close to the Action

Posted on December 3, 2009January 7, 2015

Today was one of those Gotta Do It Days, where you just have to complete those unwanted but necessary items of life.  That included a trip to Cody for a doctor visit, hopefully one of the last where the lingering effects of my blood clot, pulmonary embolisms, and coumadin treatment are discussed.  I’d just as…

These Men

Posted on December 1, 2009January 7, 2015

This morning dawned crisp but sunny.  The dogs were on alert hearing the semi’s tires grate along the frozen gravel.  Dally began a low growl as it rolled along the mile long road into the ranch yard.  Once within sight, her growl turned to a bark, and out of the yard she ran, Lucas and…

Someday Soon

Posted on November 29, 2009January 7, 2015

The holiday must be over… it’s quiet in my house. No banter… No football game on the tv with a secondary background noise from computer or ipod… No key clicks from laptops at work… No opening of refrigerator doors to stare at contents… No semi-secretive attacks on the foil wrapped pie plates… No squeaking floors……

A Tip of the Hat

Posted on November 28, 2009November 24, 2014

When I think up things to write about here… I focus on our ranch activities… my dogs… scenery… wildlife… and Wyoming. But I can’t seem to let this one subject go simply because it doesn’t fall into any of those categories. My father’s 80th birthday would have been yesterday… Except he’s been gone from this…

Gather Together

Posted on November 26, 2009January 7, 2015

Today you might have gathered together… with friends and family… around the dishes filled with good food… You drank your fill as well… Though you consumed so much food and drink… it was still difficult to leave the table… It took some self control to abandon the culinary delights… Sometimes it would just be better…

Carol, Wyoming rancher
