House Chicken

Posted on December 18, 2022

I had to move my chicks out to the coop today… They needed more room, they were making a dusty mess of my mud room, and the scent that lingered in the mud room was not the least Christmas-y. I worked on a conglomeration of wire dog crates and cardboard. They must be apart from…

Menagerie

Posted on December 17, 2022

Ugly/Cute plus 8 days… looking more Phyllis Diller-ish to me. While the big white tops are getting all the attention, there are some others with suspicious topknots as well. What a menagerie…. So long as they lay eggs, they can look however, I guess!

All the Math!

Posted on December 16, 2022December 16, 2022

We all had an appointment in another town today which meant an almost 3 hour drive one way. Not my cup of tea, but my autograph was required, so I went! When we have meetings, usually around the table, not in vehicles, I’m always struck by one thing. MATH. Now, Victoria is a science and…

#TBT: Winter Wardrobe, v.2.0

Posted on December 15, 2022

This was first published December 19, 2011. …I continue my walk. I head for a woven wire gate… easier than climbing over the tight barbed wire!  But there, on the other side, sits a snowshoe hare! He’s taking in the sun, and barely glances at me as I approach. The dogs are off in the…

Unique

Posted on December 13, 2022

Cold and snow has arrived and I spent a large part of the day simply inside… working on some Christmas presents. While I can’t share pictures of those… I did take a bit to work on my switch plates for my bathroom. I made this one a while back. Yes, my switch plates are sideways….

Like It

A new favorite mug. The picture doesn’t do it justice… there’s ribbons of copper highlighting the forest colors… Yup. I like this one! What colors would you want together on a mug?

Christmas Story

Posted on December 11, 2022

Craig Johnson read his Christmas short story to a full house at the Ten Sleep Library today. It was great to have Craig and Judy back in Red Dirt country.

Wonky

Posted on December 10, 2022

I’m almost done with my Christmas decorating… and outside, of course, I had my sidekicks’ help. All I want to know is… how can she be so cute with such a wonky ear?

Ugly/Cute

Posted on December 9, 2022

My baby chicks have hit that ugly/cute stage… when fluff is gone and straggly feathers are coming in. Since I ordered a rainbow assortment, I didn’t know what breeds I was getting. It looks like 7 of them are some variety of the Polish breed. Known for their feathery top knot, they’re kind of goofy…

#TBT: Replacement Heifer, v.2.0

Posted on December 8, 2022

This was first published December 6, 2011. The home made branding iron heats in the cedar fire. The snow melts backwards in ridges. The heifer clangs into the chute. The iron is pulled and a “0” appears on the heifer’s hip.  Born in 201*0*, it is now forever imprinted on her hide. She holds inside…
