Elsa at work

Posted on June 22, 2008May 28, 2014

Elsa at work The Bounce. Keep ’em moving. Going in for the bite. Get around, Elsa!  Note my shadow… I wanted to post a few pictures of Elsa at work.  She has learned so much since she arrived on July 2 of last year.  Many times those first few weeks, I wondered if she was…

One more time…

Posted on June 20, 2008May 28, 2014

Once again, we were on horseback today.  This time to gather the steers off our BLM lease ground.  We will be selling them on Monday, so we have to gather, retag, and weigh them.  Today was a big gather, though 2 weeks ago we also gathered this pasture and brought home our cows and calves. …

D revisits puppy soccer

Posted on June 15, 2008May 28, 2014

When the pups were small, we played a game I called “Puppy Soccer”.  It encouraged their chasing skills and was extremely fun to watch.  I videoed  it once and put it on YouTube.  You can find it there or search my blog for it.  I wondered if D would remember it… Dally has played it…

D dog

Posted on June 14, 2008May 28, 2014

I’ve only met my English Shepherds…well, I’ve met two 8 week old pups…but my pack are all I know personally.  The internet has been an amazing resource for learning of other English Shepherds.  And between the 12 I’ve met, their ability to take things in stride has been remarkable.  D came to us at one…

D’s story

Posted on June 13, 2008January 30, 2015

When Lucas and Elsa had their litter last November, one puppy stood out due to his coloring.  Drifter, as I called him, had a drift of white snow on the right side of his face.  Not simply a wide blaze, a bald face, atypical in English Shepherds.  Among the four males in the litter, Drifter…

Whew…

Posted on June 3, 2008May 28, 2014

The view from above…Elsa rests at my feet during a break on a long day of gathering.  Never far from where I am, this is typical Elsa.  If I’m on horseback, she’s at my horse’s back end on the left side…95% of the time.  I didn’t teach her that, maybe that’s where the shade always was! …

Photo of “Cuteness”

Posted on May 12, 2008May 28, 2014

A couple of weeks ago I wrote an entry about “Cuteness”.  Lucas and I attended school for the last time this spring, and once again, we had the pleasure of listening to kindergartners read.  This time the weather was cooperative and we managed to be outside among the shade of playground equipment.  “Cuteness” was her…

Mountain trip

Posted on May 7, 2008May 28, 2014

Just a couple more notes about our drive up the mountain… 1.  Taking those wildflower photos was a challenge.  Yes, the snow was gone and the soil was warm, but it seems like whenever I sit down (or lay down ) I am surrounded by my English Shadows… and they don’t lay behind me, they…

Another family portrait

Posted on April 24, 2008May 28, 2014

This looks like summer downtime… but 5 minutes before we had pushed a bunch of cows 50 feet away and I had told them to stay in the yard and lay down… and this was their reaction.  When people doubt that these dogs come with an “off switch” they need to see this photo and know…

A Hike

Posted on April 16, 2008May 28, 2014

We woke to a covering of snow after two days of 70 degrees.  And, although moisture would be welcome, the storm only managed to spit out a pitiful .04 of liquid.  And the wind had to partner with the storm, so when I and 4 dogs took a walk this breezy afternoon, I expected a…

Cuteness

Posted on April 15, 2008May 28, 2014

Today is Tuesday… the day Lucas and I become reading partners to kids at Ten Sleep School.  We have always listened to the 3rd/4th graders read, but today we were thrilled to have the kindergarten class as well!  Yes, they can read…and they read one of my favorite authors, Dr. Seuss!  Picture this:  A little…

Whoops

Posted on April 10, 2008May 28, 2014

I knew I should have checked my spelling…it is Kalahari, not Kalihari… I will correct it! Lucas gave me a scare this morning.  He didn’t meet me at the back door, he didn’t come when called, he wasn’t in sight.  I took Dally’s breakfast to the kennel and locked her in and began my search. …

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
