SoapStones

Posted on February 22, 2013April 4, 2015

My newest little venture into capitalism includes these beauties. I’ve named them SoapStones. I discovered the process while investigating my wool felting.  Remember those Christmas stockings?  Well, this includes the wool roving, but instead of using a needle, you simply wet felt the wool around bars of soap. At some point, I may add some…

More and More Fun

Posted on February 8, 2013October 29, 2014

I probably messed up… It was a warmish day, in the thirties, with sunshine for the first bit.  I decided I was going to prime my ceiling boards for the studio, even if it wasn’t 50º. I hauled out a heater, turned it on, and felt it start kicking out heat. I then went to…

Get ‘Em!

Posted on February 5, 2013October 29, 2014

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I know I shouldn’t let those kinds of things bother me, yet they do… thanks for lifting me back up! Two (hopefully) final thoughts about “So God Made A Farmer”. 1.  Jay Leno *just* made fun of the commercial.  I didn’t catch it all, but sheesh, guess it means…

How To Needle Felt a Bird

Posted on January 15, 2013April 4, 2015

All righty then!  You’ve had extra time to gather your supplies… let’s create a bird! I want my birds lightweight, so I’m not making them solid like if I was using hot water to felt the wool.  I’m just layering light roving… creating a close approximation to a bird’s body… then adding some details. The…

No Nuthin’

Posted on January 14, 2013October 30, 2014

Well, rats. Started to make a video with needle felting… this time I’m working on a House Finch, another frequent visitor to my bird feeder… then I looked at the clock and decided that it was not the best use of my time when I had an appointment for Lucas at 11:00.  Which means I…

Needle Felting 1

Posted on January 13, 2013April 4, 2015

The day started off at -13º… but after lunch, with sunshine and no wind, the +10º felt quite agreeable!  I spent a little time insulating the walls of the dog house and installing one wall.  I also built a little “foyer” wall, an attempt to block the wind from just entering and swirling around the…

Something

Posted on January 12, 2013April 4, 2015

Assorted thoughts from a day unfocused… My Denver Broncos lost.  Waaaaaaah! It’s -6 outside… All I can think is… I’m hoping it’s much colder on the mountain, just to kill off a few bazillion pine beetles… I found, online, a new way to use needle felting… It’s amazingly gorgeous and I can’t wait to try…

Fingers Crossed

Posted on December 23, 2012April 3, 2015

Well, I probably should have baked all day… but instead I just continued my line of crafting like Christmas is still two weeks away! NOTICE TO MY FAMILY:  Expect gifts throughout January, because obviously you’re not getting all this *hand-did* stuff day after tomorrow! Today’s projects? I made large crayons.  Well, I re-melted crayons.  This…

For Jan

Posted on December 11, 2012April 3, 2015

<giggle> I *told* her I’d dedicate this blog to her… so Jan, here ’tis! While on the phone with a Dear Friend of mine, I was multi-tasking, telling her what I was making… she, giving me her version…  Let me back up a bit. I’d seen these beautiful Christmas decorations… and they were SIMPLE. Food…

Library Silent Auction

Posted on December 10, 2012April 3, 2015

Another fun Open House at the library… over 50 people attended… and we raised just over $1000!  Yay! My little HoHoHo earned us $22, and my little jar of home-made vanilla extract scored $25! I shall NOT divulge how much I spent on other items, however!   But I will tell you what they are.  I…

Failure and Happiness

Posted on December 9, 2012April 3, 2015

Well, poo.  Tomorrow’s the library’s silent auction and I didn’t finish up everything I had planned.  Too many ideas and not enough time! The project that has slowed me up the most is the photo transfer I wanted to do.  Finding the right combination of gel medium, paper, printer, etc. has slowed the process way…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
