Doin’ Her Thing

Posted on February 11, 2017

My journaling class was a success… I think my 12 attendees had a good time. That’s about all we can fit into our little room at tables, so it was perfect! It’s continuing to melt RAPIDLY around here.  Fifty degrees will do that!  Every little depression or draw is now home to a river of…

Questions and Answers – February 2017 Edition

Posted on February 8, 2017February 7, 2017

Steph: I was wondering if you use the same veterinarian for both large and small animals. Yes, we do.  We’ve used The Good Doctor for many, many years… with occasional visits to others as needed, depending on the situation.  Most of the vets around here handle both large and small animals. Irmgard:  Carol, since some…

Not For Everyone

Posted on February 7, 2017February 6, 2017

Holy chinook, Batman!  We’ve had a warm wind blowing and all our snow is now slush… or ice. Bleh.  That’s Bleh with a capital H. Poor Brandon’s got a black eye from falling into a metal gate while graining the calves.  He was carrying buckets of grain and couldn’t catch himself.  He could have probably…

Quiet Evening

Posted on February 4, 2017February 3, 2017

Our evenings are pretty quiet around here… a little tv, a little crafting, a little reading, maybe some snoring… but our doorbell rang tonight. A neighbor girl stopped in to tell us she had just seen a mountain lion on the highway a few miles up the road by our other place.  She said it…

#TBT: Cabin and Dogs

Posted on February 3, 2017February 2, 2017

This is possibly Ernest and Louise Greet at their cabin with their dogs. I thought their cabin was on Otter Creek… but maybe I’m thinking of William Greet.  Genealogy gets so confusing… especially when the places don’t look right!  No date.   **** It’s time for a Q&A, folks.  Post your questions HERE!

Chicken Hunt

Posted on February 1, 2017January 31, 2017

Every other day is turning into a chicken hunt. I could lock them up… but I don’t… so… we look here… and there. Eden digs one out from under the loading chute… Lucas bumps a couple with his nose.  They’re in deep snow and don’t want to walk! Three lead the way clear up by…

Bare Ground

Posted on January 31, 2017January 30, 2017

My chickens are happy with the tiniest bit of bare ground that they can find.  I see it as kind of a “lemon/lemonade” scenario.  The eleven hens are giving me 8-10 eggs a day… so if it makes them happy to scratch around in the wee spot of earth they find outside my yard fence…
