Sundog Morning

Posted on January 29, 2008December 19, 2014

The sundog hung above the cedar topped hill.  We were feeding our replacement heifers when I noticed it, a glaring bite of rainbow lonely in its attitude. As my tractor lurched and thudded over frozen chunks of manure, I reached for my camera.  Pausing the tractor’s progress, with my husband’s questioning look, I opened the door…

Wwwwindsssssday…..

Posted on January 28, 2008June 12, 2012

Well, actually it is Monday, but we’ve had Wind the past day and unlike other parts of Wyoming, we don’t always get wind here.  We manage to whine like wind through the wires when we get it, too!  Barring the drafts that blows through this old house and the creaking of the cottonwoods in my…

Test For Video

Posted on January 26, 2008March 15, 2013

Play becomes work later for puppies as it does humans… so, I’ve always tried to get all my pups to chase… sssshing them up and chasing rags tied to long sticks or kicking balls around.  Since this was my first litter of 10 wonderful English Shepherd pups, I had an entire team to play ball! …

A Fox Visits

Posted on January 25, 2008April 2, 2013

When you get that feeling in the morning that perhaps you should drag your camera along… just in case.  Do it!  The thought crossed my mind this morning, but protecting it from hay and grain dust seemed too much to bother with.  Bad decision.  A young fox came by not 15 feet away from Vernon…packing…

Heat Wave

Posted on January 23, 2008June 13, 2012

Today was a heat wave…7 degrees above zero…  That’s 45 degrees warmer than yesterday!  Another soft inch of snow had fallen, just a powdery decoration on top of everything.  So many things just seemed easier than they did yesterday…amazing at the change in thought processes that gave this low (still chilly) temperature a reprieve in…

Brrrrrrrrrrrrr

Posted on January 22, 2008April 2, 2013

When your digital thermometer won’t show a readout, it is a good morning to not ask the temperature!  We rolled outside at the normal time, the full moon sliding down behind the rimrock, the sun not quite up enough to reach down here next to the creek… The moon was bright against the amethyst sky,…

Snow

Posted on January 21, 2008April 3, 2015

We haven’t had winter like this in years.  It has sifted down all day long, sometimes heavily, sometimes not.  In undisturbed places the white blanket is a foot deep, making any travel out of a rut difficult and sweaty!  We cheated to move the cows down to the Christopherson place by putting out a hay…

Description

Posted on January 20, 2008April 3, 2015

This “Overlook”, while it may pertain to Rimrock English Shepherds, will also include those notes of a more private nature…our life on the ranch, our children, my photography, and yes, stories!  Many people have commented on our lifestyle when they reach me through the Rimrock English Shepherd website, so we shall see if this answers…
