After the Show Show

Posted on May 16, 2011January 12, 2015

The thing about this past branding… When we’re done branding and eating… We’re NOT finished. There’s one big obstacle left called, in usual imaginative Wyoming terms, “The Big Grey Ridge”. So everyone that has brought a pony, and has the time to help, joins in. The first part is easy. The second part can be…

Teams

Posted on May 15, 2011January 12, 2015

The guys rose early and went to help a neighbor brand. I slept in. I admit it. I slept in. Until 7:30 when my eyes flew open in a panic!  What was I forgetting???? Nothing. Nada. I rolled over and grabbed my library book and SPENT THE NEXT HOUR IN BED READING. I admit that…

First Branding

Posted on May 14, 2011January 12, 2015

Can you spell sorrel? The red horses win! Out here we call ’em sorrels… back east, they might be called chestnut. Either way, they’re red! (YES… for you detail oriented people… one is a paint and one is a bay, but at first glance!) The day is over. It was CHILLY, though it was predicted…

Get Ready

Posted on May 13, 2011June 12, 2013

Ready or not, here it comes. Today I’d get something done, then lay down for a bit, and then get up and cook some more.   Thank goodness I went with Matt’s suggestion of Frito Pie for branding again.  I did it last year and it was very easy… I’m so glad I’m not having…

Driveway Gift

Posted on May 12, 2011January 12, 2015

I don’t feel good and didn’t accomplish a thing for branding. That means tomorrow I HAVE to cook while the kids and friends gather the pasture. Hate to miss it, but just couldn’t motivate. Not looking for sympathy, just stating a fact! The rain did leave me a gift at the end of my driveway……

Stay Tuned

Posted on May 10, 2011January 12, 2015

So after our 2 day run to Laramie and back, it was back to farming. With the late spring and plentiful moisture, the guys have been squeezing in any farming they could do anywhere! I’ve been trying to finish painting the basement, and since we know how boring that is… I took my doggies for…

Where the Laughter Remains

Posted on May 9, 2011January 12, 2015

So we made that 6 hour car trip to Laramie… pretty much exactly like last year… except… It was Brandon graduating, not Daniel. We didn’t try to do it all in one day (who’s getting smarter?) The windmill farm is now complete. We met someone infamous (if you’re a Wyoming Cowboy fan). (OK, FYI, this…

I am so curious about the Mills place. I’ve read some archives but really want to know why is it called the Mills place and how long have you been working on it? Angie, we bought it from the Mills family about six years ago.  We’ve only been working on the house these past…

Wonderful! Nothing like a chance of winning to bring out the entries!  Way to go! Let’s get to it! Taylor wrote:
I have a couple questions. 1: Where did the name the Badlands come from?
2: I don’t know a lot about dog breeding. Might some of Dally’s puppies be sable, because of Elsa? Or will…
