Smidgen

Posted on May 23, 2010January 8, 2015

Wow. It’s raining again. You do realize that Wyoming gets only 12-14 inches of rain per YEAR, don’t you?  We do tend to feel that we have webbed feet after multiple rains! It is making the countryside GREEN. OH. OOPS. This is RED… I do know my colors. But this is part of what water…

Highwater

Posted on May 22, 2010January 8, 2015

We had high water in the Nowood just a few weeks ago.  It was a typical spring thaw… melting the snow on the Big Horns.  Then it snowed again.  And again.  Not so much here, but at 8,000 feet? Oh, yes.  Then it has rained.  And rained. Sorry to the outstanding people of Nashville, whose…

Indian Room – Finished!

Posted on May 21, 2010January 8, 2015

OK… So maybe it’s only 95% finished… No curtains yet… No bedspread.  Though I’m debating between a microsuede from Overstock.com or dyeing my own duvet cover… No baseboards… One little bare spot I’m looking for a photo frame to fit… It’s gone from peachy walls to warm camel… and now it’s decorated! I AM SO EXCITED!…

Wildflowers

Posted on May 20, 2010March 27, 2015

One of the best things I did today was to take the time to go photograph the creek flooding and some wildflowers. As I headed out the door, I noticed I had left my little camera powered on… and minimal battery time was left.  RATS.  I had to switch to my big Olympus telephoto and…

Going Great Guns

Posted on May 18, 2010January 8, 2015

I was happy to see that my post from yesterday had such a good response.  It does make you think!  Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’M ALL FOR ENERGY INDEPENDENCE… my Dad worked for oil companies for most of his career life.  I know a few things about the oil business… but independence to me…

Tough Call

Posted on May 17, 2010January 8, 2015

The Wyoming wind opened up the gates this evening… just a bit… which reminded me I was going to show this state’s latest export. “Wyoming Wind” by the Bar J Wranglers (which would HAVE to be the background song for this entry) gives special attention to this phenomenon. If you’ve ever driven across southern Wyoming on…

Not Quite Making It

Posted on May 16, 2010January 8, 2015

Today was the kind of day that summers should be made of… 72, sunny, and NO WIND!  Absolutely perfect! I finished planting my garden… hoping that the frost of the 14th would be the last one until fall! I mowed my lawn and started on the lawn at the Mills place until I ran out…

Tomorrow is Another Day

Posted on May 14, 2010January 8, 2015

Well, finished, (I hope) getting ready for branding in the morning… Then we gathered the pasture. I took video… but I’m not sure if I’ll upload it or not… I think if you have a tendency towards sea-sickness, you won’t enjoy it!  I tried to just video as I rode along, taking you with me…

I’m Cooking… in More Ways than One!

Posted on May 13, 2010January 8, 2015

My mother was a great cook. My sister is a fantastic cook. Me. Not so much. I do it because it is part of the job description for ranchwife… like filing cards in the card file when I was a librarian… or paperwork when I was an archaeologist… there’s always part of the job that…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
