Not Much

Posted on June 28, 2022June 28, 2022

Not much on my agenda though the guys are hard at work haying. A trip to Worland today for a dentist appointment and groceries… I now have less money but I gained a crown… Photo just because…

Slow Down

Posted on June 27, 2022June 27, 2022

Even though there is some yucca blooming, these white flowers are miner’s candlesticks, not yucca. I always slow going through the Slope Pasture bottom gate, as it’s home to Indian Blanket flower… Then there’s the elusive Prince’s Plume… Megan has seen it, but I’ve missed it… so I am using her photo of it to…

Good Job, Team

Posted on June 25, 2022June 25, 2022

A cool morning and cloud cover made for an easy start as we trailed 100 pair to the Slope Pasture. Five adults and four kids left the barn and we opened the gate to the corral where the cows we’d gathered yesterday had spent the night. And we’re off! The clouds gave a blue tint…

In Good Time!

Posted on June 24, 2022June 24, 2022

I love it when I complete a project in good time! My first version of a wool saddle pad took me over a year to make, neglected, however, over the summer months. This one took me right at a month! Daniel’s birthday present/just because present is done. I gave it to him asap because we…

#TBT: You’ll Be Fine, v.2.0

Posted on June 23, 2022June 23, 2022

This was first posted June 24, 2011. As you’re reading this, I’m in Casper. I’ve returned to my mom’s house for a special occasion.   My brother and sister-in-law now live in “Southfork”, as my dad named it.   <Any guesses to what his favorite TV show was way back when?>   Anyway, tomorrow we’ll…

Trail Them Home

Posted on June 21, 2022June 21, 2022

I know I shouldn’t wait until late to write, but it seems like I always do. We spent two days riding, gathering the badlands. We are missing just a few, and Vernon and Daniel searched again today and found a couple that belong to some neighbors but not us. There’s many a hidey hole out…

Tomorrow

They gathered the badlands today. I babysat and took them lunch. Once again I sit here nodding off… More tomorrow.

Back at It

Posted on June 19, 2022June 19, 2022

It’s time to pull the cows and steers off of BLM land. They’re in the Willow Creek Pasture. That’s a close pasture to the Home Place, so Jaxon and Quinlan were lucky enough to play cowboy. We did a bit of back and forth, going out, gathering, bringing them back, and heading out for more….

Gardening in Wyoming

Posted on June 18, 2022June 18, 2022

Well, I had held off planting my tomatoes for quite a while… we’d had a few cold mornings later than usual, but I finally planted them. Here it is… two weeks later or so… and, son of a gun, it froze the other morning. The stems don’t really seem to be frozen, just the leaves……

Regenerative Workshop

Posted on June 17, 2022June 17, 2022

Megan, Brandon, and I attended a workshop put on by UW Ag Extension. Around 40 people attended, which is excellent because June is one of the busiest months for ranchers and farmers around here. The main speaker was Alejandro Carrillo from Chihuahua, Mexico. His basic idea is that intensive mob grazing by cattle followed by…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
