Wyoming’s 125th

Posted on July 10, 2015

I had a story to tell with lots of photos… unfortunately, the internet doesn’t seem to be very cooperative tonight!  I’ll try that tale again tomorrow! I had a very busy day trying to mow and weed eat everything I could… but then tonight, I had to take a young man and his Spiderman fishing…

Dig Deep

Posted on July 9, 2015

Today I helped out at Ten Sleep’s summer school!  They were going to one of my favorite places, Medicine Lodge State Park, just north of the town of Hyattville.  Their theme this summer is “Dig Deep”, so I got to talk archaeology!  This is the perfect spot for it, having had multiple digs on the…

Wordless Wednesday -“Wool Insulation”

Posted on July 8, 2015

When it’s hot (and, boy, it’s been HOT), sheep stand together and pant.  These bucks were doing that the other day… wool insulation, I suppose.

Smoke

Posted on July 7, 2015

I haven’t seen it this bad since Yellowstone burned.  Canadian forest fire smoke has made its way into the Big Horn Basin, and the past week has been miserably smokey.  Small rain showers and wind haven’t helped.  This *is* smoke, not lowered clouds with rain. My red hills have disappeared!  At least I can still…

Plenty to Do

Posted on July 6, 2015

It seems like all I have worked on this past month was “Jen”, the T.rex skull, or the Grasslands Exhibit.  On occasion, I did help out a bit with ranch work. There was the morning spent bleeding our heifers. This is a pregnancy test for the heifers to see if the AI process took.  That…

Excellent Day

Posted on July 5, 2015

More photos from Independence Day… Yes, we had a “float wardrobe malfunction” and lost a book cover.  Oooooops.         We’re funny… or we think we’re funny! Craig finally got to meet Jalan Crossland.  Home town boy.  Talented and award winning musician.  Excellent writer.  Very fun and unique… go check out a few…

Collapse

Posted on July 5, 2015July 5, 2015

Collapse.  That’s what we finally did about 4 this afternoon… after zinging from the opening reception of the Wyoming Grasslands exhibit into final work on our float and supper with Craig and Judy Johnson at the Red Reflet Ranch yesterday and today’s early start to get those last minute details on the float finished.  We…

Just a Tease

Posted on July 4, 2015

Just a smidge of our float for tomorrow morning… full of meaning if you’ve read “Dry Bones”!  It’s been a full day.  Great dinner at the Red Reflet with Craig and Judy Johnson. Come back tomorrow for a view of the entire float and parade and who knows what else? Be there.  10 am. Ten…

Grasslands Exhibit

Posted on July 3, 2015

Tonight was Ten Sleep Library’s opening reception for the Wyoming Grasslands exhibit.  It opened in Ucross last month, we’re the 2nd of 14 libraries in the state to host this for a month.  I have been working on hanging the 41 photos, black and white and color, for a week!  There were lots of trips…

Universal Show

Posted on June 30, 2015

Quinlan and Lorelei won’t be here over the Fourth, so we had a tiny show tonight… A little unsure at times… Loving it at others… It was a good little show… Then the Universe was very nice and put on its own show!  The view from my studio tonight… Venus and Jupiter in conjunction.

Natural

Posted on June 29, 2015

Today was payday.  The yearling steers we sold last week were shipped to the buyer today.  We are all there, plus our “rep” or salesman, the brand inspector, the vet, the truck drivers. We run them across our scales first, getting weights on groups of 10 or so, and averaging them. Then they’re loaded on…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
