Another One

Posted on July 10, 2012April 3, 2015

If you think I’m talking fire… well, yes.  My guys were out until 3 am, fighting fire in a steep and rocky canyon.  This time things went perfectly and they hit it hard and fast, and kept it to less than 30 acres! Score! Beats 4,000! Thunderstorms continue to swirl around… which means I’m on…

Ash Devils

Posted on July 7, 2012April 3, 2015

While the heaviest smoke has lifted, our skies are still filled with the haze of all the wildfires burning… We sit on the edge of our seats, nervous, scanning the skies for smoke trails that will lead us to tiny fires we can dispatch quickly and easily. We had a call the other day, one…

It Was Wild!

Posted on July 4, 2012April 3, 2015

The rodeo was hot, dusty, and fun… The bull riding gave me the most action shots… no surprise there… A little elevation… A little compression… A lot of extension! (I have never ever seen a bull stand on his head like this… He held this position for a bit… it was WILD!) Come back tomorrow…

Tonight’s Preview

Posted on July 3, 2012April 3, 2015

Well, barring thunderstorms and lightning and smoldering trees… I’ll be at the Ten Sleep Rodeo tomorrow, sweating. And taking pictures. And cheering on friends and neighbors. And taking pictures. I’m on the hunt for subjects for my Red Dirt Shirts… Cowboy boots and old trucks, Chaps and buckles, Fringe and cowboy hats and spurs, Bridle…

Skinny Dipping

Posted on July 2, 2012October 22, 2014

This summer may become known as The Summer We Moved Cows Constantly. This morning we moved some down with the heifers we’d tested and moved yesterday.  There were only 30 pair or so… but they were brushed up on a point along the Nowood Creek.  Back in the day, you could ride your horse through…

Gold Star

Posted on July 1, 2012October 22, 2014

The stinking wind blew ALL NIGHT, stirring up the ash and making our world smoky again… but we had heifers to trail back to their home… so we tried to get up and going early, but my, oh, my! It was HOT. Almost 80 at 6:30 in the morning. Bleh. Elsa was Dog of the…

Extra Effort

Posted on June 30, 2012April 3, 2015

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
