Playing in the Dark

Posted on September 23, 2010January 14, 2015

Playing in the dark… WAAAAAYYY back when… I was the youngest kid on the block, so I didn’t get to join in much… but we played a game called Sardines.  It is the opposite of Hide and Seek, kinda, sorta. In the dark, with boundaries set… ONE, and only ONE, kid goes and hides. Everyone…

Posted on September 22, 2010January 13, 2015

This week… After roping practice, Bic can’t quite “Ride Into the Sunset”. She’s tied to the horsetrailer. ********************************************************************************** September 22, 2009   Salty Dog

Town Trips

Posted on September 21, 2010March 27, 2015

Another town trip. Seems like we’ve been going a lot lately. Going to town just is SUCH a pain. I could really *really* get to be a hermit sometimes.  I enjoy visiting with people… chatting away… but if I don’t do it for a while, that’s OK too!  Which is good seeing as how it…

Sponges

Posted on September 20, 2010November 24, 2014

I found more fossils! While wandering the mountain Sunday, I took the time to look.  For years and years we’ve known they are there… Up on Fossil Butte… you know, the one that appears in practically all my scenic photos of mountain work, like this one last week!  Or this one I took… gee, Sunday. <note…

Twilight Zone

Posted on September 19, 2010January 13, 2015

I was up on the mountain today. For part of it, Victoria and I took our dogs past the old Bar C cabin. I’ve never seen this cabin standing, but over the years, I have watched it lower itself like a grandfather settling in a soft couch.  Bit by bit, it disappears into the ground….

Rah Rah

Posted on September 18, 2010January 13, 2015

Last night heading home… it was easy to see that fall has hit the boxelder trees. Willow came running over to the road as I drove in… Whoa! Look at that! What ARE those things? Guess wild turkeys are still enough of a oddity around here that they warranted a close look. There were 15…

A Picture of Progress

Posted on September 17, 2010February 4, 2015

Finally, a picture of progress. Before we started remodeling the bathroom… it was classic 1950’s style. Cool mint green *fake* tile… With a neato fishy on the rear wall!  Although there was a shower curtain, notice there is no REAL shower.  Remember those you could hook onto the tub spout?  Yeah. The tub was original…

Transcendent

Posted on September 16, 2010January 13, 2015

A short evening with friends… They do what they enjoy… I do my part.  (Can you see me?) Just for practice. Just for fun. And it *was* fun. My favorite photo? This one. Where *his* shadow is falling on *her* horse. Team roping. It’s a dance. It’s art. It’s music. And when you are a…

Character Guarantee

Posted on September 14, 2010January 13, 2015

Today’s job was vaccinating the weaned calves. Today’s job consisted of 3 shots, and some pour on pesticide. My “shot” actually was 1 cc given up each nostril with a dull plastic attachment on the syringe. Today’s job is one you *can’t* apply for if: You value manicures. Your fancy clothing can’t get stained with…

Sad and Tired

Posted on September 13, 2010January 14, 2015

What do you get when you wake up at 4:30 am, get dressed, down some coffee, attempt some breakfast, saddle your horse, drive up the mountain for an hour, sort off calves from their mommas, and wait for the semis to show? You get tired. Even Boomer was exhausted. OK. I lied. Boomer was just…

Four Minutes of My Day

Posted on September 12, 2010March 27, 2015

I’ve had my shower, removed some trail dust, and I’m currently sipping on some of the *finest wine*.  OK.  Charles Shaw.  From Trader Joe’s. <It was reported that my previous link had malware attached to it.  So sorry.  Please don’t let it download anything!  Thanks, Penny!> I can relax now… so long as Rocky quits *barking*……
