Storm

Posted on August 30, 2010January 14, 2015

We were headed to the Mills place about two this afternoon, it had rained a bit and we couldn’t cut hay… and I’ve been working on the bathroom up there quite a bit on my own.  Today, the guys were going to lend a hand. As I headed out my door, part of a ominous…

Posted on August 29, 2010January 14, 2015

If you’re a fan of “It’s the right thing to do and the tasty way to do it.” welcome to *your* blog entry!  Because for most of you out there, Wilford Brimley excepted, I’m sure… you’re not sure what oats look like before it gets into the Quaker Oats round box or those little packets…

Just to Make You Three Happy

Posted on August 28, 2010January 14, 2015

All righty, folks… These will be the last wedding photos I plan on posting… I thought I’d throw out the fun ones… My boys LOVE to do this for some unknown male reason… they stare vacantly into space, mouths slack, often not looking at the camera.  A Dumb and Dumber there’s-nobody-home version that has ruined…

Let us Laugh… She loves him… Matt’s father D. married them.  His best (little) man was N., Matt’s nephew.  Matt’s brother, Z. also stood for him. Let us Believe in One Another……

Big Cedar Ridge

Posted on August 24, 2010January 14, 2015

We were supposed to be back to thrashing the grain after our buckaroo interlude… but a small rain shower cancelled those plans.  Wet grain can’t be thrashed.  The guys headed up the mountain to put out salt, repair some fence, and check on the cows.  They took a lunch. That means… That  means… I don’t…

Third Look at Irrigating!

Posted on August 23, 2010January 14, 2015

I know. The plan was for wedding photos. Victoria and Matt were here… we looked at them… then… somehow… in the case they left me… was TimeLife’s “Country’s Got Heart” CD. OOPS. So… Victoria assures me my CD will be mailed to me… Today for a poor substitute is my third (and most likely FINAL)…

The Job is Finished

Posted on August 22, 2010January 14, 2015

When you take cattle on a new trail… they usually don’t like it. It’s new. They don’t know if there’s a mountain lion around that rock, or  they get the whoops!-where’d -my-calf-go-to-now? syndrome, and the ever popular whine of BUTHOMEISTHATWAY! But the alternative was to trail through two other pastures full of cows, so we…

‘Ear, ‘Ear!

Posted on August 21, 2010January 14, 2015

Victoria and Matt are here for a day… Her last “time off” before school starts this week… She decided to participate in our local food co-op this week, so we blasted into town first thing this morning and picked up our “baskets”. This co-op has just started at the beginning of summer… but you can…

Service

Posted on August 19, 2010January 12, 2015

We had a little ceremony here on the Greet Ranch yesterday. Even the reporter from the Northern Wyoming Daily News in Worland made it over. Seems as though my father-in-law, John, received another award for his volunteer weather observation.  He’s received the Jefferson Award and John Campanius Holm award previously.  This time it was the Dick…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
