Nine Eleven

Posted on September 11, 2009March 25, 2015

Out here… we won’t forget… Though everyday life goes on… we won’t forget… Through high winds and hailstorms… she still flies high… we won’t forget… She’s in the background of all we do… we won’t forget… We’ll teach the young ones… they can’t forget…

Goin’ to Kaycee

Posted on September 10, 2009January 5, 2015

Kaycee, Wyoming is much like Ten Sleep. Small.  (About 300 in population, but with many outlying ranches, like Ten Sleep) One K-12 school. (though theirs is brand new and Ten Sleep School is old) Elevation. (4600′ or so) Mainly a ranching community.  (more impact from oil and gas and coal in Kaycee) Many families from…

Kaycee Challenge Dog Trial

Posted on September 8, 2009January 4, 2015

Now yesterday I admitted my love for my breed of dogs… English Shepherds… but I still admire the working Border Collie. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have driven 2 hours to Kaycee and the sheep dog trials… I didn’t get a program… but let me assure you the contestants and audience came from all over…

My Taste in Dogs

Posted on September 7, 2009January 4, 2015

My taste in dogs doesn’t refer to dogs as menu items… but rather what appeals to me. Well, duh… English Shepherds have the personality I want. Mine are mild mannered, laid back, intelligent, Loyal (with the capital L), and great working partners. Just like my horse… I want a mellow horse that will stand still,…

Sepia Shipping OOPE

Posted on September 6, 2009January 3, 2015

Before my eyes slam shut and I lose consciousness… I’ll share my sepia flavored OOPE photos from today’s mountain excursion. My favorite flavor! The plan must be made… the 30 old and open cows… and the 24 heifers… and 1 errant steer… must be loaded onto the semi for the sale on Tuesday. The calves…

Pregnancy Testing Video

Posted on September 5, 2009May 12, 2014

This video shows our hard work yesterday much better than my OOPE photos!   I believe I’ve outlined the basics of what we are doing on the video… but should you have any questions, please leave a comment and I’ll try to answer or clarify anything.   I usually give the vaccinations… but Vernon took…

Ugh. Preg Test OOPE and exhaustion

Posted on September 4, 2009January 3, 2015

This day has a reputation of being one of the longest, loudest, and most frustrating days of the year. It is the day we pregnancy test our cows and yearling heifers. This year went remarkably well… but I’m still… sore from being on my feet… deaf from listening to the generator for the vet’s hydraulic…

Mountain OOPE

Posted on September 3, 2009January 3, 2015

My collection of OOPE photos continues to grow. I’ve always just stuck the camera in my pocket (hence the Out Of Pocket Experience title!)… but when it is 90 degrees outside… a coat or sweatshirt with pockets just doesn’t cut it! For those of you new to the OOPE photos… see the sidebar for more……

Fifteen Years Ago… and a few Days

Posted on September 1, 2009January 3, 2015

I have to continue the story from the other day… the day A. and I spent dusting off our vintage memories… sharing them with her husband V. … (Their blog of this is at alivincedath.blogspot.com) because… because… dammit!… that Girl Scout camp meant SO MUCH to me and so many other girls! I bawled and…

Mother Nature’s Dance

Posted on August 31, 2009January 3, 2015

I am sorry I didn’t post last night. I am sorry I didn’t post last night. I am sorry I didn’t post last night. A. and V. and Vernon and I were caught up in a dance with Mother Nature last night. We had a little too much of this going on… Just at sundown,…
