PO. LAR. IS.

Posted on September 3, 2017September 2, 2017

PO.  LAR.  IS. Polaris.  What’s its other name? This was our focus last night about this time as the four oldest grandsons and I snuggled into our sleeping bags atop the trampoline.  The air was brisk, enough that protruding limbs were soon covered up by blankets or sleeping bags or clothing, but not bad enough…

Helper

Posted on August 30, 2017August 29, 2017

Yes, the plan was to share photos of the mountain with you, but, once again, cuteness wins out. I had a helper with that grape jelly today… and he can now accurately recount what it takes to make grape jelly. (although ‘pectin’ is kind of a tricky word) (and he wrote ‘Jaxon’ and ‘2017’ on…

Gallivanting

Posted on August 13, 2017

While I was off gallivanting with other Wyoming librarians… my family was still working on the ranch… moving cattle this time! It was another exposure for the little boys to help ride and work. I think they loved it! (and I’m sorry I missed it) (photos shamelessly stolen from Megan and Tess)

Partway Up

Posted on July 25, 2017

We trailed to our mountain pasture… our big workday… But this year, for me, it was a tad different.  Instead of riding, I had babysitting duty, watching five grandkids.  That freed up three people to ride instead of just me, so it made sense logistically, though I have to admit, I missed my cowboying job!…

#TBT: Where Were You?

Posted on July 21, 2017

July 20, 1969 My dad called me in from playing outside.  I whined pitifully, preferring to hulahoop, or play some game with my friends, or something Very Important to my ten year old self. “Get in here, now!  Someday you’ll be happy to tell your grandkids you watched the first man walk on the moon!”…

Let’s Rodeo

Posted on July 16, 2017July 15, 2017

You might have Little League. Maybe youth football. Here in Ten Sleep, we have the Kids’ Rodeo! Geared towards ranch kids, or any kid that owns a horse and rides a bit for fun, this mini rodeo isn’t for those kids who really *compete* at rodeo, it’s just a fun playday. In 100˚ heat. (ok,…

That Grin

Posted on July 12, 2017July 11, 2017

Longmire Days was fun… definitely more people this year, although I really only felt it at the street dance.  I didn’t push for photos or autographs, but just enjoyed the visits, the food, the craft fair, the town of Buffalo, aka, Durant, which I enjoy every time I visit. I’ve more to share at a…

Grandkids’ Day

Posted on June 25, 2017

It must have been Grandkids’ Day at the Greet Ranch. Early in the morning, Quinlan gets to try out a neighbor’s “kids’ horse” for the first time. It was an easy ride of a few miles along a road… and to the home place. Then we began to bleed the heifers… gathering a blood sample…

Third

Posted on May 22, 2017May 21, 2017

Well, I told Tess about the great wildflowers, and we decided it was perfect for Lacee’s third birthday photos… I loaned her my old cowboy hat… and I gotta say, the girl rocked my hat!

#TBT: Buffalo Bill Museum

Posted on May 19, 2017

A photo postcard from the Buffalo Bill Museum… no date. Very interesting to locals as it is now composed of five different museums… The Buffalo Bill Museum, Whitney Western Art Museum, Cody Firearms Museum, Draper Natural History Museum, and The Plains Indian Museum.  Definitely a worthy stop if you’re traveling to Yellowstone Country and Cody,…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
