Frosty

Posted on January 6, 2015

I did help Vernon again… leaving the boys to ride horses in the badlands and gather the last of the reluctant cows… I do believe this is the first time NEITHER one of us has gone… Which, really… is just kinda WEIRD.  I mean, there’s times where I don’t ride anymore, but Vernon’s usually there…

Snowshoe Outing

Posted on January 5, 2015

With not much sunshine left in the day, the dogs and I headed out.  Putting on my snowshoes was almost enough work for me!  OK.  I exaggerate.  Down the incline, through the gate, and we began our normal walkabout.  It’s not much, usually… but with snowshoes, it’s a tad bit more work.  Before long, I’m…

Help Feed

Posted on January 4, 2015

Vernon asked me to help feed this morning.  We had awoke to -11˚… and if I helped, the boys could do their feeding, and then turn the cows in that were standing at the gate.  Vernon could get an earlier chance at snowmobiling out to turn off a generator and pump.  Of course, I’d help. …

Gifts

I woke up to a blizzard… boy, the wind was blowing and the snow was coming down!  When it was done, we’d received 5 more inches on what we already have… time to break out the snowshoes!  I faced the wind and squinted as I walked to the chicken coop… brrr.  A few fumbling missteps…

Bitter Cold

Posted on December 30, 2014

-23 as I head to bed… That’s a level of bitter cold in which I’m EXTREMELY grateful for a house!  The coldest I’ve ever seen it was -55 in 1983.  I remember because the guys had to go ride horses and bring the cows in from the badlands… and Vernon told me I could stay…

Pillow Results

Posted on December 29, 2014

A couple of you have asked how the grandsons liked their pillow beds I made them for Christmas.  Well, they were a hit, and yes, Daniel even admitted to stealing Jaxon’s for a quick nap!  In fact, I do believe it was Jaxon that was the most thrilled… Here he was, making himself at home…

Tough Going

Posted on December 28, 2014

A quiet morning with nothing on the list but cleaning… so when I went to let my chickens out into the 7˚ weather, I decided I’d sneak into my studio.  Minutes later, a fire is in my wood stove and an extra heater is plugged in.  I had grabbed my GoPro thinking I’d try an…

Routine

Posted on December 27, 2014

Well, I hope your Christmas was full of bright laughter, friends, and family. The quiet has returned this afternoon as Victoria and family returned to their home.  My house seems empty and my decorations are looking a bit sad… I’m thrilled to say I got some cool presents… topping the list is my new tiny…
