Fire Starter

Posted on August 2, 2013

I canned the pitiful Minute Movie I WAS making, and replaced it with this one. Though this movie is much longer, this thunderstorm was IMPRESSIVE. Notice some things: My camera fades in and out of focus… I apologize for that.  Some of the best lightning bolts are out of focus, but I left them in…

Refill That Tank

Posted on August 1, 2013

Today I worked a smidge on a Minute Movie from the other day… I managed to catch a lightning strike out towards the badlands on film… and oddly enough, the guys spotted a fire out that way this afternoon.  I’m sure it’s not the same one, but I thought it would be a good tie-in….

I’m Grateful

Posted on July 30, 2013

For the past few days, thunderstorms have rumbled through… bringing a bit of rain, too much lightning for my taste, and winds up to 50 mph. From the Studio, it looks like this over our oat field. The moisture is GREAT, July has been very dry right here… though other storms have gone around us….

Girls Need Jawhorses Too

Posted on July 29, 2013

I worked all day in my studio… finishing up my tongue and groove siding. I much prefer this work to hanging my ceiling! And I actually did something I’ve been waiting WEEKS to do.  After requesting to borrow Vernon’s “jawhorse”… and, after he continually forgot to bring it up from the other place… I went…

Father-Daughter Dance

Posted on July 28, 2013

When we moved our cows the other day, Dally was Dog of the Day. However, Lucas was along with Vernon in the Rhino… and once we’d made the Big Loop (and saw the elk) and arrived back at the corral to pick up *those* cattle, Lucas was free to join in the fun. Believe me,…

National Day of the Cowboy

Posted on July 27, 2013

Today is the 9th annual National Day of the Cowboy.  Fully recognized as a permanent day of celebration in seven states, with more coming on board, NDOC has growing support. It’s a heritage I’m proud to celebrate… and while I didn’t do too much “cowboy” activity TODAY, let’s have fun with it anyway! I’ll share…

We Have Elk! Video

Posted on July 26, 2013

Turn up your volume. Turns out, you HEAR the elk tons more than you see them!  I knew they were there in the trees… and I could see flitting patches of warm brown fur between the trees, much better than my camera could. The call between cows and their calves is haunting, and desperate, and…

We Have ELK!

Posted on July 25, 2013

Last night the decision was made to move our cows.  They are up in our high mountain pasture, which, unfortunately, has a fair amount of larkspur in it.  Tall purple larkspur, while a somewhat attractive wildflower, is also highly toxic to cattle.  It also must taste ok, because they’ll eat it!  The older it is…

Artistic Wool Felting

Posted on July 23, 2013

Progress in the studio: The last sheet is in place, though not screwed down. Or up. Depending on your perspective. Yes, I plan to paint this side just like the other, but I was more concerned about using the lift than painting. Hopefully, a few minutes of attaching it, then it’s off to the other…

Ranchwork

Posted on July 22, 2013

I spent almost a half an hour trying to shove a piece of OSB onto two weak lightweight sawhorses before I got totally disgusted and just leaned it against the bottom logs and sawed out the hole for my light switch. I think I said a Bad Word. But when I finally raised it to…
