Lights of Kaycee

Posted on December 13, 2011February 5, 2014

Victoria had a great idea tonight… I should head down to Chris LeDoux’s memorial park and take some photos for you guys. I jumped at the chance even though low light photography is a major weakness of mine! Although the LeDoux family has done a great job with the trees in the park…. There were…

Wow. Simplicity

Posted on December 13, 2011February 3, 2014

Ok. Now that’s just plain stupid. I’ve called go daddy multiple times… Never did anyone suggest their remote blogging feature by email. They could have had a much happier client if they’d told me about this! I just found it wandering around my settings… Certainly, it is limiting… No hyperlinks… Well, let me check that…https://reddirtinmysoul.com/2010/12/12/the-antlers-quartet.aspx….

I Know, I Know

Posted on December 11, 2011February 3, 2014

I know. I know. I took off without officially telling you where I was going… even basically what the Sam Hill was going on!  But if you noticed my tweets on the left sidebar… you had a clue. I’m at Victoria’s home… helping with the twins! I wanted to blog.  Really, I did.  The first…

Replacement Heifer

Posted on December 6, 2011April 1, 2015

The home made branding iron heats in the cedar fire. The snow melts backwards in ridges. The heifer clangs into the chute. The iron is pulled and a “0” appears on the heifer’s hip.  Born in 201*0*, it is now forever imprinted on her hide. She holds inside her black self, fantastic genetics, a good…

Dala or Notdala

Posted on December 5, 2011April 1, 2015

Tonight was the Open House/Silent Auction at the Library. I was in charge of decorating… and true to form… at the last minute, I’ve been trying to finish up some tree decorations for our “Scandinavian” tree. I made dala horses, well, *MY* version of dala horses. They are typically red. Mine are blue. And white….

Forlorn

Posted on December 4, 2011April 1, 2015

Lucas is lost in his own fog… Well, his own breath, at least! I couldn’t keep up on foot with the heifers and guys on 4 wheelers… so my poor boy just watched as they left us behind.  It still amazes me he’d rather stay with me than go work with the guys… especially since…

A Different Perspective

Posted on December 3, 2011April 1, 2015

We retagged our replacement heifers today… making them “official” members of our cow herd.  You know the drill… getting new large tags and new numbers as opposed to their little tags that matched their mommas’ numbers… an age brand (this year it’s a 0)… and a nice new green tattoo. I’ve documented this in the…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
