Puppies

Posted on June 4, 2011July 30, 2013

So, today was branding.   I did not take one picture.   Honestly.   I almost went through some sort of camera withdrawal… but I had the branding iron in my hands, so I was busy.  Just not photographically.   Now that I’ve got you worried, neverfear!     I charged M. with the job…

Sleep Well

Posted on June 3, 2011January 12, 2015

Well, while my rhubarb cobbler is bubbling away, I’ll say a few words… Time is tight with the branding set for tomorrow. I flew to town this morning and bought groceries, returning after lunch and I’ve been cooking ever since!  Of course, this year I’ve had lots of help, Brandon’s girlfriend M. has sliced, diced,…

Calendar Shot

Posted on June 2, 2011January 12, 2015

Today was very long, very tiring. I left home at 7 am and returned at 9 pm… which was an hour and a half earlier than the other guys… We still have cows to get… but I’ll head to town to buy the groceries for branding dinner… and then cook it all tomorrow as well….

Yes Day

Posted on May 31, 2011November 23, 2014

Yes, I was on horseback for 8.5 hours today. Yes, we had to ride clear out to the pasture because it was WAY too muddy for a pickup and horsetrailer. Yes, we slipped and slid and coasted and tripped in the mud. Yes, Panama actually crossed *many* little creeks and boggy areas and never even…

The Puppy Coop Is Open

Posted on May 30, 2011January 12, 2015

We start riding tomorrow, gathering cattle in the muddy badlands. That meant today was a deadline of sorts.  One that separates me from all the new additions.  There would be no one here to let Dally outside… and she’s had more than one accident inside as of late.  She HAD to move outside, meaning puppies…

It Worked

Posted on May 29, 2011January 12, 2015

Before too many days pass, I wanted to share something amazing. It’s entirely different from my usual posts. It’s not about dogs. Or weather. Or Wyoming history. Or farming. Or AI-ing. Or horses. It’s about… everyone sitting down? COOKING. There! I said it! Every once in a while I amaze myself… For Daniel’s birthday, I…

Who’s Hiding

Posted on May 28, 2011April 1, 2015

In case you were wondering… and reading my old posts… yes, we are AI-ing. Toria is here, Daniel and Brandon, and neighbor S. But they don’t need me… so I’m working on other projects. At least in between the times I’m standing over the puppies going… “ahhhh…”  and “ooooooh…” and putting wayward puppies back into…

Meet the Crew

Posted on May 27, 2011July 30, 2013

My original plan for this litter… was to name the girls with Wyoming names, and the boys with Nebraska names.  On my trip to Dally’s rendezvous, I’d jot down names of creeks, counties, rivers, or roads… whatever caught my eye.   Wyoming is pretty slim pickings for girls names unless you want to go with…

Dally’s Litter

Posted on May 26, 2011January 12, 2015

Wow! Thanks, everyone, for your well wishes!  We made it through the day yesterday… though, of course, it couldn’t be simple or easy! Vernon woke me at 4 am, insisting Dally was going to have her babies. I rolled out, checked on her, and didn’t see anything too unusual, just her heavy breathing and uncomfortability!…

Infrastructure

Posted on May 24, 2011January 12, 2015

A Lesson On Infrastructure. “Infrastructure is the basic physical and organizational structures needed for the operation of a society or enterprise.” Even to me, it was very obvious that this bridge had sustained damage in the floodwaters of a few days ago. Where before this had spanned a sweet little stream… It’s now an island…
