Random Dog

Posted on September 4, 2016September 4, 2016

Victoria and I debated on who was gonna ride, who was gonna watch her kids… and this morning at 6:20 when she woke me up…(!) I decided *she* was going to ride… and I’d corral her kids. Tonight, as my legs are still sore from yesterday, I’m very glad I didn’t spend another 8 hours…

Minute Movie: “Summer Pasture”

Posted on July 25, 2016July 24, 2016

Let me explain a few things… There are cows all along the route, they’re just hidden either by trees or landscape… There is no huge gap between the front and rear. The sky is smoky due to the fire… Dally was laying in the shade behind me, no disrespect to her since I didn’t get…

Covered in mud from a boggy seep, this is Dally’s version of “Go Lay Down”.

Fence ‘Em In

Posted on June 14, 2016June 13, 2016

“Fences make good neighbors.” We’ve all heard that adage, and when it comes to running livestock, it’s never more true!!! Escapee cows/calves/steers/bulls cost us lots of man hours.  Whether its through neglect, age, wildlife, nature, or just obstinate critters, fences beg for work constantly.  Brandon has been fighting fence and escapees for the past few…

Go Lay Down

Posted on June 8, 2016June 7, 2016

“Go Lay Down” A phrase every working dog around here needs to learn… Lucas and Dally have it down pat… Eden needs some work!  I remember Elsa having problems with it, as well, and I guess that gene is in little Eden. When you have gathered a pasture, or moved your herd, you can hold…

Working Dog

Posted on June 6, 2016June 5, 2016

I opted for babysitting Quinlan and Lorelei today so that Megan could ride.  It helped me get my house cleaner… and lawn watered some… and two loads of laundry finished!  But then, Tess and I took up lunch to the cowboys. I debated.  If they weren’t quite to the Slope Pasture… they could probably use…

Meet Jekyll

Posted on February 29, 2016February 28, 2016

You remember Daniel’s dog, Tuff? Well, a few months ago he went AWOL while up here… He was found in a rather embarrassing situation at the neighbor’s place… And now?  Now, Brandon has his own little Tuff.  He’s named him Jekyll. He’s much like his daddy… friendly… CHUNKY… And he is learning quickly how to…

That Was That

Posted on February 24, 2016February 23, 2016

On our walk, the dogs found Something.  A very, very, bad Something.  It was worth barkbarkbarkbarkbarkbarkBARK! I yelled. I whistled. barkbarkbarkbarkbarkcomeseewhatwehave! I was two fences and a creek crossing away, so I yelled.  I whistled. Suddenly.  Silence. I yelled.  I whistled. In a flash Eden was on her way back, followed by Dally, both stopping…

Jump Step

Posted on February 23, 2016February 22, 2016

Vernon continues to work on his bale feeder… the two rollers in back are now tied together.  As he left for the afternoon to continue welding… I mentioned I had a welding project in mind. I described it, waving my hands in the air, giving some approximation of size… and you know what? He nailed…

Adventure Dog

Posted on February 1, 2016January 31, 2016

Every day is a New Adventure. I heard barking.  I whistled.  Lucas looked at me and followed me to the chicken coop, but the girls were AWOL.  I fed and watered the chickens, still hearing barking in the distance. It sounded like they were in the brush patch below Brandon’s house.  Who knows?  Skunk?  Coon? …

Here’s Your Sign

Posted on January 29, 2016January 28, 2016

Lookie, lookie! Brandon gave me this sign… and we hung it on the kennel door. He cut  it out of steel and gave it little hangers to bend over the wire.  Originally, I think we planned for a portable kennel door, but since it doesn’t get used much, if at all… we put it here….
