I didn’t think we’d go. The clouds lowered themselves in a foggy curtsey over the mountaintops. Soft billowing waves of fog drifted down, then up, and down again. I’ve ridden in the clouds… it’s a game of peekaboo with the cows. Sometimes it’s not the most enjoyable of days. The word was given. Horses saddled….

#TBT: One Day, v.2.0
This was first posted August 2, 2011. We moved the last of our cattle that are down low to our Mesa Pasture early this morning. Dally was my dog of the day… and it wasn’t very long before she was soaking wet from the heavy dew that lay on the grass and in the willows….
Branding Video
Branding is an essential part of our ranching operation. A big thank you to friends and neighbors that help make it happen!

Waiting
Horribly hot here about like everywhere else… I’ve been able to hide out inside catching up on house duties… and watering my lawn and garden! Tomorrow’s high is predicted to ”only” be 88°, so cow work coming up! This photo was from the other day… waiting for the cows and calves to find each other…
Welcome to Bayer Creek
We took our cows to a new pasture today. I was dreading it, knowing we might have to trail through another pasture full of cattle. Thankfully, most of those cattle had moved on… so our new trail was a pretty easy drive! We only had to correct the girls a few times, thankfully, they were…
Still Calving Season Video
Finally! After months of being lazy, I got around to making another video! This one covers way back in March, the 21st through the 30th. I hope to crank out some more videos soon, just to catch up!
Responsibility and Freedom
Seems like we’ve been doing a great deal of cow work lately… This time we shipped a bunch to our mountain pasture and then had to pair them up. We had Quinlan and Lacee and Lorelei along today, and I couldn’t help but spend most of my time watching them. I always seemed to be…
Down Pat
Sunrise found us horseback, gathering heifers to bring them home. They crossed the creek on the second attempt, and soon we were up the hill, through the gate, and on the highway, walking the three miles home. Three cowkids were along to help. Having them mounted on horses instead of ornery ponies has made a…
Good Job, Team
A cool morning and cloud cover made for an easy start as we trailed 100 pair to the Slope Pasture. Five adults and four kids left the barn and we opened the gate to the corral where the cows we’d gathered yesterday had spent the night. And we’re off! The clouds gave a blue tint…
Trail Them Home
I know I shouldn’t wait until late to write, but it seems like I always do. We spent two days riding, gathering the badlands. We are missing just a few, and Vernon and Daniel searched again today and found a couple that belong to some neighbors but not us. There’s many a hidey hole out…
Back at It
It’s time to pull the cows and steers off of BLM land. They’re in the Willow Creek Pasture. That’s a close pasture to the Home Place, so Jaxon and Quinlan were lucky enough to play cowboy. We did a bit of back and forth, going out, gathering, bringing them back, and heading out for more….
