A Charaid

Posted on January 22, 2017January 22, 2017

Vernon fed cows and worked on the hay feeder that’s broken.  I’m not good at mechanic work other than “Hand me that 3/4″ socket” and I do as I’m instructed… It’s a great deal of standing around for me, so I worked inside on my house, doing the normal daily slog that must be done……

#TBT: “Zula’s Cabin”

Posted on January 20, 2017January 19, 2017

Of particular interest to my friend and dedicated reader, D. My mother-in-law’s aunt was Zula.  She married Rouse Anderson.  To you locals, that explains how the Greets and Andersons are related! This photo reads: “Nowood homestead where Zula was born.” No date, but Zula must have been born in the early 1900’s… though I don’t…

Eagles As My Witness

Posted on January 18, 2017January 17, 2017

The plan was to get our cows ready for calving season… Giving them a couple of shots and some pour-on so that they’ll be at their healthiest when their babies are born.  Think of it as bovine forms of pre-natal vitamins, some antibodies, and, uh, wormer. We always have some neighbors come help, and we’ll…

Chicken Hunt

Posted on January 17, 2017January 16, 2017

After going on a chicken hunt this morning, I went in to work at the library to cover for a sick co-worker.  My chickens occasionally prefer to go walkabout and I only had four in the coop when I went to lock them up last night.  Now, there are just about a bazillion and a…

Amazing Idea

Posted on January 16, 2017January 15, 2017

I ran across something the other day… Now, it’s been happening since 2012, but, gee… I guess we are a little behind the times out here!  It is a spectacular idea, so I thought I’d share… just in case you are like me… What if, when you get something new in the mail… you can…

Deal With It

Posted on January 15, 2017January 14, 2017

We bangs vaccinated our young little heifers today… Most of the work preparing for today, I have missed.  That was bringing them to the corral, sorting off any older heifers and cows, and weighing them.  Today I was late as well because I had to get lunch going first.  We did half of the bunch…

How Many

Posted on January 14, 2017January 13, 2017

Just have to share a few pics before it gets too late or I take more and never get a chance to share these… When I ride along with the guys, I will see a chance for a pic and never say anything… just because we would be stopping ALL THE TIME.  Now, Vernon is…

#TBT: Way Back Wishes

Posted on January 13, 2017January 12, 2017

While last week’s #tbt was a photo of my grandparents… I went back another step to my *great* grandfather shown seated in this photo.  His name was Kennedy Underwood and he was a full blood Choctaw.  Born around 1860 in Indian Territory, I know nothing much about him but his parents’ names (Pehlichi and Tennessee)…

Washing Dishes

Posted on January 11, 2017January 10, 2017

Time and warmth enough to finally take down my outside Christmas lights… It was horribly warm yesterday… 45˚.  Now my house is surrounded by a snowy ice rink, where you take your life in your hands walking on my front sidewalk, out to the chicken coop, or simply climbing into your car. I *HATE* when…
