Paint Project

Posted on September 9, 2015September 8, 2015

Fall is definitely in the air… nights are cool enough that my window fan is TOO cool by morning, hence another blanket on the bed. September will be a busy month, cow work is coming up, my annual trip to the Wyoming Library Association meeting in Cheyenne, plus a fun day or two planned as…

Labor Day Weekend

Posted on September 8, 2015September 7, 2015

While the Labor Day weekend has been full of company and activities, most pics have been of the grandkids whose photos I can’t post! There’s wading in the creek and sweeping “roads” in the dust on the shop’s concrete floor.  There’s riding in the Rhino and fighting with your brother.   There’s riding on the Row…

Skyline Rainbow

Posted on September 6, 2015September 5, 2015

Again.  Smoke. Right by Rome Hill Road… and the boys take off.  Vernon stays at home, just in case.  Half an hour later… smoke about two miles away.  Off he goes.  The boys get alerted they might need to leave the other fire, where there are other tankers and fighters and come back closer to…

Big Trails Dispatch

Posted on September 5, 2015September 4, 2015

Unfortunately, I had the chance to be Big Trails Dispatch once again.  A small lightning storm blew through just after supper, with a few nice CRAAAAACKS on top of us.  When the phone rings about two minutes later… your first response is “craaaaaaap”.  (Sorry about the vulgarity there…)  The guys soon rolled on to the…

Shiver

Another favorite.  “Ernest Greet and Shiver” What a horse Shiver was!  and doesn’t it make you wonder… how’d he get that name?

Cool

Posted on September 2, 2015September 1, 2015

I feel like I didn’t accomplish much today… They weren’t very physical, I guess! I started to scan some of the old family photos… after figuring out the best way to do it, it went fairly fast.  Scanning at a higher dpi slowed the process down extensively, so I didn’t.  I imagine I may regret…

Coating of Pine

Posted on September 1, 2015August 31, 2015

There’s one set of cows we have still running in conjunction with the neighbor’s… Today we split the herd to take them to better pastures. No dogs got to play today because the other cattle aren’t “dog broke” and they will just go on the fight and not want to move.  Well, that was the…

Boysen Dam

Posted on August 31, 2015August 30, 2015

For any Wyoming history buffs out there… Here are two photos I found interesting. Boysen Dam is south of Thermopolis, Wyoming.  Construction began in 1946.  It is a rockfill dam, eventually reaching a height of 220′ and length of 1,143′.  The crest of the dam is 30′ wide, but the base is over 900′!  That’s…

Old Photos

Posted on August 30, 2015August 29, 2015

Gah!  I’m SO disgusted with myself!  I wanted to enter some photos in Casper’s Wild West Photo Fest like I did a couple of years ago… and I kept thinking the entries were due the last of August.  I looked at the form today, and the deadline was yesterday.  I AM SO MAD AT MYSELF! …

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
