Time Would Tell

Posted on August 5, 2014

The dog’s paws padded through the fine dust sending the red poofs abruptly skyward.  Steadily he ran, tongue rolling sideways, ears forward, then backward, seeking, listening, seeking, listening.  He was determined though unaware of his destination… determined to lead or stay alongside the little truck as it puttered along the country road. A run for…

Overkill

Posted on August 4, 2014

The last pasture we ride through is full of the neighbor’s cattle.  Rather than fight them off while trying to push ours at the same time, our neighbors show up to kick theirs out of the way and hold them as we go by.  It’s also convenient because this is the pasture with all the…

Fireweed Rare

Posted on August 3, 2014

One pond I rode by seems to never settle, the clay/bentonite soil is always suspended, and it is a perpetually muddy pool. The barren trees overshadow it, their roots allowing the water to seep upwards in an enduring spring. Hidden among the roots, I spied pink surprises. Fireweed blooms in the moist shade, a rare…

Dying Mules’ Ears

Posted on July 31, 2014

OK. I’m pooped.  I may even be beyond pooped. Don’t ask what that is, just take me at my word! We trailed our big bunch to the mountain pasture today.  They went good most of the way, except for the STEEP HILL.  The cows went up it fairly well, but, unfortunately, a lot of them…

Craig Johnson/One Book Wyoming Video

Posted on July 29, 2014

Wow. RAIN. After days of sweltering heat, it started to rain last night and continued throughout today. 1.13″ in my rain gauge!  That’s a Very Good Rain for Wyoming! And I actually wore a sweatshirt for part of the day… Another thing I did today was create a video for the Ten Sleep Library facebook…

Salsify Fun

Posted on July 28, 2014

And back on the ranch… Another bunch gets moved up to the Mesa Pasture… the difference this time? Victoria AND Matt wanted to ride, so that left me behind in the company of twins… Never to be left too far behind, I threw them in the Durango and followed the dusty trail. We arrived just…

Cheers, Mr. Johnson

Posted on July 28, 2014

Mark this on my calendar.  An absolutely amazing day.  It was our One Book Wyoming event for Washakie County. We, meaning three of us from the Ten Sleep Library, piled into the Buick and flew to Worland and help set up for author Craig Johnson’s appearance.  It was very well attended, and fun, and then…

Nice Gather

Posted on July 26, 2014

Gathered another pasture… Dally was on duty today.  It was an easier day for her… not a long distance, not too much up, more downs! Creek crossings were multiple! She loved it! Weather was a tad cooler… in the 80’s instead of 90’s… All in all… a very nice gather!
