Good Plan

Posted on September 6, 2011January 30, 2015

Goodness. I can’t even function. My sister got here last night and we stayed up til almost 2.  Then I woke up at 6:30.  Now it’s only 10 and I’m ready to tip over and I’m not ready to go to work in the morning either! So… I’m cheating. I can’t help it. Exhaustion is…

The Last Pair

Posted on August 9, 2011April 1, 2015

I have another early morning heading my way. I’m supposed to roll out about 4:15, be ready to leave my house by 4:50. Drive to Worland to be there around 5:50. Why? Because this last pair… these cutey patooties… Stocky Stormy with her wild left ear, and Niobrara with her slight build and high set…

Dog Gone Long Day

Posted on August 8, 2011April 1, 2015

Saturday’s trail drive covered about 12 miles. The elevation rose from 5100′ to about 7700′. It took from about 5 am to 4 pm.  Of course, we had two stops to rest in there, once after a big hill climb, once for lunch.  We then waited two more hours to let them settle down and…

Hunting Lessons

Posted on August 5, 2011January 19, 2015

Jireh left today to her new family… I think she’s going to have a *wonderful* time! Afterwards the last two pups started following Elsa and Dally and I followed them. It quickly sank in what was going on. Stormy and Nioby were being taught how to hunt moles. A favorite place is along the fenceline…

One Day

Posted on August 2, 2011January 15, 2015

We moved the last of our cattle that are down low to our Mesa Pasture early this morning. Dally was my dog of the day… and it wasn’t very long before she was soaking wet from the heavy dew that lay on the grass and in the willows.  It was easy to see how she’s…

The Final Four

Posted on July 31, 2011January 15, 2015

For the past few days, there have been the Final Four. Four pups waiting for rides to their new homes. Five had already taken their journeys, and I’ve actually received photos of some of them in their new surroundings!  When they’ve all reached their new homes, I’ll share… But this morning, Husker was due to…

No Challenge

Posted on July 22, 2011January 15, 2015

Challenges come in all forms and sizes. My last challenge was one I did not relish. Since my pocketbook is too tight for me to hire the vet to drive the 47 miles to my house from his clinic… I was faced with driving my Durango full of 9 puppies to him.  I’ve done it…

Monday Movie – “The View”

Posted on July 18, 2011August 24, 2013

I thought I’d try something new. Wednesdays are Wordless… I decided that Mondays should be Movie Night. A short, one minute video blog entry about something. Anything. Whatever. Although most of you love my photos, I always feel you’re missing out on “the experience”. We’ll see if the movies fulfill that… I’m sure you’ll let…

En Garde

Posted on July 17, 2011January 15, 2015

Someone said to me the other day, “Isn’t it ironic the overabundance of water this spring has cost us the shortage of water this summer?” Translation: Our irrigation of our fields is now JUST STARTING.  Vernon and the boys have worked and worked and hired LARGE excavators to repair and replace ditches, headgates, crossings, and…

Appreciate the View

Posted on July 14, 2011January 15, 2015

The past two days have been Cowboy Days.  With the water situation finally resolved in one pasture, and the lease of another pasture, we could finally move some cattle to higher range! Yay! Cattle don’t do as well in hot weather… and we’ve had plenty of that lately.  They were very happy to move up,…

Learning Manners

Posted on July 12, 2011August 24, 2013

Part of getting these pups ready for their new homes besides the standard physicals and shots…  is a little behavior work. It never hurts to teach those kids some manners BEFORE they go off to their new lives! So I give you… Learning Manners: Sitting before Feeding aka the cutest puppy video ever!  A little…

Puppies and Panama

Posted on July 4, 2011April 1, 2015

Happy Fourth of July, everyone! We had to move some cows this morning… which resulted in a late arrival to the rodeo and fewer chances to take pictures.  Don’t worry, I WILL share what I did manage to get… It also allowed me a rare instance… since Panama now lives up here at the Mills…
