Bar Log

Posted on January 4, 2009December 2, 2014

Up at the Mills Place is a sawmill.  Ped and Gary, the Mills brothers, both enjoyed working this sawmill.  Vernon had helped Ped a time or two, but had never run the saw.  Now, Gary wants to keep the sawmill, so we don’t own it, but ever since we’ve bought the place, my boys have…

Roads

Posted on January 2, 2009December 2, 2014

We made a flying trip to Billings today.  I hadn’t planned to go because originally it was just Vernon and Victoria going to Cody to finish up the paperwork on her new car.  But Vernon said since they would be halfway to Billings, why didn’t I go along and we’d figure out our cabinets. See,…

Aargh!

Posted on December 29, 2008December 2, 2014

Frustration was paramount today.  We had made it an early day… taking Johnny to Worland to catch a flight to Denver and then San Francisco to see Cindy, Vernon’s sister.  We had our shopping list ready for the big city.  Since it was so early, nothing was open yet, so we went out to eat…

My Work

Posted on December 20, 2008April 3, 2015

My Work Lately, my work has included this. Lots of it… buckets to be exact.  And I’m tired of it. I don’t want to see anymore of it. Yecch. and sandpaper… that too! “Begone away!” sigh. It doesn’t seem to be going away.  Daniel says we’re gonna be doing this all winter.  Ha.  He gets…

Progress

Posted on December 18, 2008April 3, 2015

Today I actually made progress!  My Christmas cards are now done.  The tree Vernon and the boys cut for me yesterday is 80% decorated.  A few more Christmas decorations are up.  I actually was well prepared for all my students and classes today!!!  The dogs got a few more bales of straw around their houses…

An Audience

Posted on November 30, 2008April 3, 2015

Well, we had to let the kids go back to their respective “homes” today.  Three went back to Laramie (cousin Caleb included) and one to Kaycee.  We cleaned up some garbage at the Mills place, doctored the sick calf, loaded up Caleb’s snowmachine into his pickup, ate some pitiful lunch and then they left.  It…

Different Directions

Posted on November 29, 2008January 10, 2015

These days, now that the kids are really adults, when they are home, we all can go different directions and accomplish a great deal.  Early early this morning, Daniel and Victoria accompanied their grandfather to a bull sale in Billings, Montana.  That entails a four hour drive…a walkthrough of the bulls (which, of course, we’ve…

So Tired

Posted on November 28, 2008April 3, 2015

I am SO TIRED… we worked all day up at the Mills place tearing out walls, doing electrical, figuring out stuff on the fly.  Do I want the outlets here or here?  Do you want the stove to be here?  How tall is the bar going to be?  How tall is the back of the…

It’s Gone!

Posted on November 26, 2008December 30, 2014

Remember just a little while ago, when I talked of Beginnings?  We have been discussing the remodel of the kitchen at the Mills place.  Nothing too pressing… just debating cabinets, and placement of appliances, and some minor stuff.  Well, the boys came home from Laramie on Monday evening.  I spent yesterday in Worland – a little…

Beginnings

Posted on November 9, 2008December 30, 2014

I am, with some trepidation, beginning a new project.  A couple of years ago, we bought some property from the neighbors which included the main ranch house and all outbuildings and some amazing hay fields.  This is a setting easily described as the “Prettiest Place in the Country”.  My father-in-law’s best friend lived here.  He…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
