Multitasking

Posted on December 4, 2008January 10, 2015

1. My furnace is fully functional now… oh, how I love the warmth! 2. Vernon hauls Lucas and I to Ten Sleep School so the kids can read to Lucas.  We are a “reading therapy team” and children LOVE to read out loud to Lucas.  He likes it too.  Can you tell? 3. Vernon continues…

December’s First Snow

Posted on December 3, 2008April 3, 2015

Last night the snow began right at dark… pellets that remind me of fertilizer!  Within minutes the snow was an inch deep and it slowly continued throughout the night.  By morning 5 inches of snow lay quietly on my world.  My furnace had quit on Saturday… and now, believe me, I missed it!  I always…

An Audience

Posted on November 30, 2008April 3, 2015

Well, we had to let the kids go back to their respective “homes” today.  Three went back to Laramie (cousin Caleb included) and one to Kaycee.  We cleaned up some garbage at the Mills place, doctored the sick calf, loaded up Caleb’s snowmachine into his pickup, ate some pitiful lunch and then they left.  It…

Girls

Posted on November 25, 2008November 24, 2014

This is an OOPE photo from the other day. Note the dark edge of my pocket, proof the camera was really there!  I liked it then… but after spending the weekend with my mother, I like this photo even more.  This is Dally and Elsa trotting along peacefully side by side.  The work is getting…

Introducing Jazz

Posted on November 11, 2008November 23, 2014

My daughter recently came home to help with our cows…and to celebrate her 24th birthday.  (Wow.  I can’t be that old… )  She recently became the proud owner of one Miniature Australian Shepherd pup.  We’ve had lots of Aussies and Aussie crosses in her lifetime… and barring the fleeting love affair she had with beagles…

The Huntress

Posted on November 7, 2008December 30, 2014

“English Shepherds have been bred for generations as all-purpose, working farm dogs. Their responsibilities have ranged from herding and protecting stock, to dispatching vermin, guarding the home, and watching over children.” That is a direct quote (my italics) from The English Shepherd Club website (www.englishshepherd.org).  If you’ve read my blog for any length of time,…

Songdogs

Posted on October 25, 2008November 21, 2014

Caught in midstride, Lucas and Elsa enjoy the snow we had last week and all the delicious scents it seemed to quadruple.  Please ignore the tons of cockleburs, burdock, houndstongue, and mystery stickers imbedded in little Elsa’s tail.  I’m working on it with the Furminator, a little at a time!  And yes, I also know…

Rin Tin Tinnish

Posted on October 20, 2008November 21, 2014

I guess it shows my generation (or my long love of dogs) that I know who Rin Tin Tin was.  Although he did many things in the movies… it is always that POSE, you know the one I mean, that brings him to mind.  When my dogs do it, it is easy to classify it….

Teach me, Dally

Posted on October 6, 2008November 21, 2014

I had a not so great weekend.  For many reasons I’ll refrain from sharing the details with you… I mean, sincerely, that I *can’t* share them.  Take my word for it… Saturday basically sucked.  Sunday was worse on a personal level.  Monday, today, was better news, but I still felt yucky, weird, unusual, different, how…

Exertional Rhabdomyolysis

Posted on October 3, 2008November 21, 2014

On a great day, Lucas strikes a pose… Sounds yucky, huh?  Well, I can attest with my hand over my heart, tears in my eyes, and a sinking heart, that it is much more than yucky to witness.  What is it?  Basically it is when your dog works too hard, add a dose of dehydration,…

Dally’s first day as cowdog

Posted on October 1, 2008June 8, 2014

See that tri-colored bundle of energy there center screen?  That’s Dally, daughter of Lucas and Elsa, now almost 11 months old and on her first full day of cowdog duty.  We gathered these cows today.  Their calves are gone, they are ready to move down to our middle pasture, both of which made for an…

What are you DOING???

Posted on September 30, 2008December 30, 2014

The dull thud echoed around me.  The crunch of fallen leaves as my 3 dogs zipped through them were silenced and the resulting quiet was broken by the hollow thump.  Curious, I quickly dropped my camera from my eyes, and looked around.  My dogs were nowhere in sight.  I had been focused (pun intended) on some…

Carol, Wyoming rancher

Since 2008, I’ve kept this photographic journal of life on our working Wyoming ranch.  I share ranch work, my family, crafts and DIY, my English Shepherds, Bravo and Indy, and a love for this land.  Enjoy this red dirt country!
